How's Your Visibility
I just finished spring break in Park City snowboarding with my three kids. Each morning as the blinds opened from our kitchen window, the question of clarity was answered as we noted the "visibility" of the day. [...]

When I spoke at last week's Generous Churches Leadership Community, participates were given a complimentary copy of Church Unique. The books weren't supposed to be out yet, so Chris Willard and Stephanie Plagens, really pulled the rabbit out of [...]
The only thing better than digesting Andy Stanely’s book, Communicating for a Change is hearing a communicator apply it! Bruce Wesley, Yancey Arrington and Greg Poore are my teaching pastors at Clear Creek Community Church, and they really hit [...]
Last night Upward Sports kicked off its 2008 training tour in San Antonio with its typical “service beyond expectation” style. On Friday night, Caz McCaslin, the founder and president retells the creation story with humor and passion, urging church partners [...]
On the airplane from Spartanburg, SC to Dallas, TX to speak at Leadership Network, I was reflecting on the nature of vision. Although we know vision is important we tend to think of vision as intangible and in the [...]
After completing a 12-month journey with Auxano, the pastoral staff of the MET, lead by Sal Sberna unveiled their Vision Frame to over 500 people in their leadership community last Sunday. On exciting aspect of The MET’s vision is [...]
A bedrock assumption at Auxano is the belief that a "strategic outsider" is indispensable to effective ministry. So when I see a post like this one by Todd Rhoades of Leadership Network I want to pass it along..."As a [...]
Last Sunday, Faithbridge had their first Values Blitz of the year. Three "blitzes" a year make up the backbone of our leadership development process. Basically the Values Blitz is an unforgettable shared experience around one of Faithbridge's six core [...]
Henry Ford said a basic human problem is trying to do too much at once. When Jesus prayed to the Father just before his death, he recounted, “I have completed everything that you called me to do.” I am [...]
Tonight I witnessed the clarity that comes from keen observation. Many times this quality separates the Holy Spirit-gifted leaders from the general pool of influencers. I ate dinner with one of Auxano account executives, Shawna Stengle. She has [...]
Real vision is a living vocabulary. I see it as the living language that illustrates and anticipates God's better future. I was with two groups of leaders this week where moments were marked with living language. One was Dave [...]
Many people ask me how I became a "clarity evangelist." It all started in the window between July 2001 – December of 2002. In that time I was given the opportunity to work with scores of churches across the country. [...]
Would you like to fall in love with ministry again?
I want you and your ministry to experience the benefits of stunning, God-given clarity. As a pastor turned vision coach, I’ve worked with an unprecedented variety of churches from growing mega-churches and missional communities, to mainline revitalization and church plants. I started several interconnected organizations that help the church embody the movement that Jesus founded. My visionary planning tools, the Vision Frame and the Horizon Storyline are used by thousands of churches every year through my calling to raise up other consultants and trainers. In 2004, I founded Auxano, which I sold to LifeWay and continued to lead until 2020. In 2014, I created Younique to deliver gospel-centered life design through the church. It is now the world's only comprehensive, open-source life plan system.
In 2023, I founded Run Free as my official team-based consulting shop. We deliver the most innovative Vision Framing experiences available to church teams through the "Pivvot Process" and to network/denominational leaders through the "Denominee Process." We also offer team coaching to church leaders using the "Performance Practices" of meta-performance executive coaching.
I've written seven books: Future Church, Church Unique, Younique, Clarity Spiral, God Dreams, Innovating Discipleship, and Building Leaders. I enjoy speaking about clarity, calling, disciple-making, and vision. It's all about helping one another do more than we can imagine. I co-locate in Houston and Chile with my wife, Romy, and the last of my four children, Poema.
If you are interested in Run Free's consulting offerings or want to discuss getting a LifePlan, just reach out to set up a conversation.
