The Domino Effect is small group video curriculum adaptable to different settings. I used it as a family devotional tool with great returns, since it is hard to hold the attention of my 14, 12 and 9 year old [...]
Today I decided to find the best video clips that would define and explain the idea of being missional in 15 minutes or less- total. Six clips made the cut including four leaders (Ed Stetzer, Michael Frost, Mark Driscoll [...]
The last reflection I wanted share on my time with Alan is twofold: First I wanted to share how much I appreciated Alan's personal presence. Evangelicals too easily evaluate an individual's ability by their skill to communicate only. [...]
Phil Cooke has done ministry leaders a great favor by compiling helpful insights and exploring the relevance of branding from a church perspective. The subtitle of this book released early this year is “Why Some Churches an Nonprofits Impact [...]
In essence, we need to understand the power of branding and identity, and seriously reconsider how we express our faith to a skeptical and unbelieving world. p. 10At its core, branding is simply the art of surrounding a product [...]
Tom Suddes leads an organization called For Impact. He just sent this e-mail entitled: "SUMMARIZE YOUR LIFE IN 6 WORDS." I am still in the Made to Stick Series on Simplicity and this connects well:"I came across references to a [...]
The name of an organization is the first opportunity to vision cast. One of the most rewarding opportunities as a vision navigator is the opportunity to speak into the naming process. Year ago we chose the biblical term [...]
While at PGF, I co-lead with Alan, author of The Shaping of Things to Come and Forgotten Ways. Alan mentioned that Shaping was really written for church planters. They had no idea that it would become the foundational [...]
Yesterday I shared a coaching platform with Alan Hirsch and throughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn and dialogue. We are at the PGF conference (Presbyterian Global Fellowship) My favorite quote of the day was, "There is no silver bullet, [...]
I received call from two megachurch pastors this week, both in regard to sub-branding. This is an entirely missing concept and discipline in the church! To start the conversation let's consider a retail example that anyone can study [...]
Yesterday I had a second meeting with the Mission Church team, and dynamic group with a vibrant missional vision that's about to launch a power plant in the Helotes area of west San Antonio. (More on them later.) [...]
I want you and your ministry to experience the benefits of stunning, God-given clarity. As a pastor turned vision coach, I’ve worked with an unprecedented variety of churches from growing mega-churches and missional communities, to mainline revitalization and church plants. I started several interconnected organizations that help the church embody the movement that Jesus founded. My visionary planning tools, the Vision Frame and the Horizon Storyline are used by thousands of churches every year through my calling to raise up other consultants and trainers. In 2004, I founded Auxano, which I sold to LifeWay and continued to lead until 2020. In 2014, I created Younique to deliver gospel-centered life design through the church. It is now the world's only comprehensive, open-source life plan system.
In 2023, I founded Run Free as my official team-based consulting shop. We deliver the most innovative Vision Framing experiences available to church teams through the "Pivvot Process" and to network/denominational leaders through the "Denominee Process." We also offer team coaching to church leaders using the "Performance Practices" of meta-performance executive coaching.
I've written seven books: Future Church, Church Unique, Younique, Clarity Spiral, God Dreams, Innovating Discipleship, and Building Leaders. I enjoy speaking about clarity, calling, disciple-making, and vision. It's all about helping one another do more than we can imagine. I co-locate in Houston and Chile with my wife, Romy, and the last of my four children, Poema.
If you are interested in Run Free's consulting offerings or want to discuss getting a LifePlan, just reach out to set up a conversation.
